PR 101, by JuJu

It is somewhat impossible to imagine a world where politicians make good use of PR, a world where propaganda is extinct or rather, has evolved to...lets say strategic communications.

Well, include Malema in that imagery and that world is very much in existence  Yep, now who could've guessed. Hey facts do not stop being facts merely because they have not been confirmed by the court. While his counterparts are melting away their brain-cells through whisky inhibitions, Malema and his entourage were plotting a surprisingly effective PR programme. The various publicity acts included:

  • launching his new party EFF at a well attended press conference
  • Visiting various varsities in Gauteng such as VUT and UJ ( that didn't end well)
  • the press conference video was published on YouTube and had over 8000k views in just a month
  • using a prominent figure (Kenny Kunene) to generate interest, hype and conversations around the party
  • and finally the Red berets added a pinch of unusualness to his strategy, really how do you forget such.

Now for the better portion of my existence I am yet to see the ruling party orchestrate such, handing out food parcels is just not going to work. Lets just hope they follow suit and continue along the same trajectory. As a PR student I was so pleased I couldn't help but hum a verse of the national anthem hmmmm hmmmm hmmm, as the Nkandla boy lurking inside me screams, "Give that man a Tender!!!!"

  1. Malema was very strategic to launch his new party (EFF) at a well attended press conference and recruiting key people, like Kenny Kunene he really established his "brand" at a concrete foundation using PR strategies and persuasion effects, such as propaganda. Really i can't imagine a world were politicians wont make good use of PR

  4. I also concur with you lads this is superlative PR at its optimum best. There are three driving forces for Juju: Publicity, publicity and publicity, which is good for the brand of EFF.

  7. Malema is very good in PR and I can see that every thing that he do it shows exactly that it has been planned well that is why he managed to persuade people to join his new political party just by using his PR skills.

  9. Whether we like it or not, the jujuman has the best PR people in his circles and know exactly when to launch a killer announcement. We may argue that they are trying to redeem their image and that maybe EFF is going to be a failure or whatever we can come with. Fact is, if da jujuman can win votes and rule, the world will be a better place.

  12. Like it or not Malema is one of the most influencial people in the country hence he was able to gain a lot of pulicity by his party and by including Kenny Kunene was just but a cherry on top.

  13. A cherry that fell after a few months, but that still helps as people are anxiously waiting for his response. More publicity for EFF.
